Kealakekua Bay is located on the Kona coast of the island of Hawai`i about 12 miles south of Kailua-Kona. Settled over a thousand years ago, the surrounding area contains many archeological and historical sites such as the Hikiau Heiau (Temple of ancient Hawaiians). The steep cliffs in Kealakekua Bay are called Pali Kapu O Keoua (Forbiddon Cliffs of Keoua). It is said to be the burial place of Hawaiian Royalty. We are truly blessed to call Kealakekua Bay our home.

Be Conservation Ambassadors
Don't chase the dolphins! it is against the law to encroach and harass these precious creatures of the sea. Enjoy them from an acceptable distance. They may come fairly close to you but let it be their choice, and when they choose to swim away let them.
Fines can be up to $10,000 for harassment of dolphins, whales, and turtles.
Pay special attention to the coral: don't stand on them, as they damage easily, and take many years to grow.
If you see trash float please pick it up and bring it back to us for proper disposal.
CAPTAIN COOK MONUMENT
Self guided kayaks are NOT permitted to land at Captain Cooks Monument. We can recommend a company if you are interested in a guided tour.
Captain James Cook arrived on January 17, 1779 with two ships: Resolution and the Discovery.
He was killed on February 14, 1779 during a disagreement.
The monument was built by orders of Princess Likelike in 1876.
The chain linked borders are supported by four cannons from HMS Fantome, and was erected in 1876. This marks the approximate site of Captain James Cook's death.
